MDS Family Council Logo 2019Serving families with members who have developmental disabilities

Who are we?
We are family caregivers of people who are eligible for services from MDS. We are a public body created by NH law to help the Area Agency develop a family support plan, and to monitor its implementation. Family Council membership is representative of the various ages and geographical locations of individuals and families served in the Monadnock region.

What do we do?
The Family Council enhances, expands and supports the role that families play in making decisions about the design and implementation of MDS services and supports. We provide a forum for families to make their concerns, needs and preferences known to their area agency and to its policy makers.

What programs and services does the Family Council support?
The Council helps MDS budget and oversee expenditures specifically provided by the State for family support, i.e., camp inclusion and scholarships, a sibling support group, gatherings and connections among families, respite programs and emergency family assistance.

Come join us!

Currently the Council meets every month from 6 to 8 p.m., alternating between Keene and Peterborough. During the pandemic, we are meeting via Zoom. Please check the MDS Calendar for information on upcoming meetings.

Everyone is always welcome, but please connect ahead with the chair to be sure of the place, to be informed of any last minute change or cancellation, and for us to plan food and time for business to be presented. Your transportation and child/family care can be reimbursed.
