Concord NH State HouseYour help is needed to raise your voice and tell the House Finance Committee at the upcoming public hearings this Thursday, March 5 (4-7 p.m.) in Concord and next Monday in Derry (5-8 p.m.) about your views on the NH state budget. You can also email House Finance Committee members and ask them not to reduce DD funding. Click here for ongoing advocacy updates.

The House Finance Committee has scheduled public hearings on HB 1 and HB 2 (our state budget). Attending one or more of these meetings is a critical opportunity to address cuts to the DD/ABD system with these key decision makers (see grid below for dates/times/locations). A large turnout will make an impression.

What is the budget proposed by Governor Hassan? Click here to see the presentation by Commissioner Toumpas. Page 14 shows DD levels.

We're issuing an all-hands call for partners to rally as many attendees as possible. Broad stakeholder attendance and testimony on the part of individuals, providers, families, and others at these hearings is key.

House Finance is looking to cut/reduce wherever they can from what Governor Hassan recommended in her budget. With very few exceptions, they are not looking to spend any more than she did in any area-- period. They are actually looking to cut in most areas, especially DHHS.

The message is simple and needs to be:

"Don't cut DD funding, it is important because... it is a worthy investment, it is a cost effective and cost efficient program."

The key point people need to make is:

Don't cut/reduce DD funding

Specific talking points are below.

Tips for testifying on the Budget

  • The budget is known as House Bill 1 and House Bill 2   (HB 1 & 2)

  • Arrive early if you are planning on testifying.

  • Plan on attending for a while. There are a lot of people who wish to speak and it can get a little boring. Bring a book, ipad, knitting etc.

  • There is no food or drink in Reps Hall but you can have food and drink in the hallways. Bring water and snacks. There is nowhere else to get them close by.

  • If you testify, bring 24 copies of your testimony.

  • If you want to testify but can't stay the whole time and need to leave, please see me- Jennifer Bertrand and I will make sure that your testimony is received by the committee.

  • Keep your testimony to 1 typewritten page. You will only be given 2 min to speak. It is vital to be succinct & quick.

  • You can bring someone else up to the microphone for moral support.
