Esther4Esther Beverly of Winchester has been named Statewide Home Provider of the Year for 2017. This annual award is presented by the New Hampshire Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Esther was one of 11 finalists from around the state. She was presented the award at the Direct Support Professional (DSP) Conference on Friday, November 3 in Portsmouth, NH.

Over the past four years, Esther has diligently forged a strong relationship with a woman with significant challenges who had moved from provider to provider over a period of many years. She welcomed this woman into her family, built trust, and created a safe home environment for her. The results of this work have been heartening for everyone. Esther’s dedication has helped stabilize the woman, allowing her to focus on personal growth, and to set and achieve goals.

“As part of the Beverly family, this individual feels like she contributes to something worthwhile every day, and has something to work toward,” says Beth Staudt, MDS Service Coordinator.  “None of this would have come to fruition if not for the everyday, intensive support, unconditional love, guidance and encouragement of Esther.”

Home providers offer a family setting for adults who are unable to live alone due to a physical or developmental disability. They bring patience, common sense and a genuine acceptance of the person with the disability. MDS and the NH Council are pleased to honor DSPs and home providers who are dedicated to inclusion, dignity, full rights of citizenship, equal opportunity and full participation for all NH citizens with developmental disabilities.
