Marylouise Alther, MDS Legislative Liaison, is following issues and activities in Concord. She will keep families and individuals posted as things progress. Here is a note from Marylouise asking families, staff and individuals to help support the issue of the Medicaid rate increase as well as

MDS Staff & Families: Please Do Your Part to Make a Rate Increase for Disability Services Happen this Legislative Budget Session!

I serves as Legislative Liaison and Family Education and Support Coordinator for MDS. I am asking staff, individuals and families to make a concerted effort in coming weeks and months to advocate for a rate increase for Medicaid reimbursement, which hasn't been changed in 10 years.

We need help from our families and staff to speak out, write letters or visit Concord when the Senate budget hearings happen in late April. This funding for a rate increase affects YOU. Your voice is critical to ensure that the budget, with a wage increase, is passed.

It is a fact that at these hearings, the Finance Committee counts the number of pros and cons for support of bills. If one of us speaks out about a specific topic, our voice is heard and counted. Just imagine if we have dozens of people speaking to this issue, what an impact this would make!

Here’s what you can do to help:
1. Write letters. I will supply the paper, etc., and script for you.
2. Call your Senator: Who is my Senator?
“I am calling to let Sen. _____ know that I support a rate increase for Medicaid reimbursement, which hasn't been changed in 10 years." Their staff can take your call and deliver your message. Please check above for contact information for the senator who represents your town.
3. Go to the Senate Finance Committee hearings. These will be held in Concord and perhaps one or two more in different towns. I can take three people in my car to Concord, and help arrange rides if needed. Further information will be provided as to date, location and time.

Please do your part in making these increases happen.
Thank you!
