plungewebFebruary 2010: A dozen hardy souls from MDS will head over to Hampton Beach on Sunday morning to take part in the eleventh annual Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics. Each of the plungers has raised at least $350, which provides much needed funding for the program.

This year’s group from MDS includes Alison Scalia, Aron St. Peter, Aubrey Saxton, Becky May, Chris Coates, Dawn Fenner, Jessica O’Connor, Laura Zimmerli, Lisa Moody, Marie Moody, Molly Gray and Ryan Byrnes. Molly and Ryan are participating with the Frozen Paws of Monadnock Regional High School. The other ten plungers are part of the CMC Frozen Sections team, one of the top fundraising teams in the state.

The past few weeks have seen heavy fundraising activities, including a LifeArt Pasta Plunge Supper, an MDS Souper Lunch and a huge raffle hosted by Dr. Dan Rath at Cheshire Medical Center.

The money raised from the Penguin Plunge benefits Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH), a non-profit organization providing sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with mental challenges. Currently 3,200 participants and thousands of volunteers, friends and family members take part in SONH activities.
