targetshareatreewebChristmas 2011 was made much brighter for many families and children supported by Monadnock Developmental Services, thanks to the kindness and generosity of an incredible group of individuals, businesses and organizations in our region.

For the twelfth year in a row, employees of Kennedy Information in Peterborough sponsored a number of area families, providing toys, clothing, books, certificates and gift cards to make Christmas more joyful for them.  Other companies whose employees sponsored families with holiday items, gifts and food baskets were United Natural Foods of Chesterfield, SunBridge/Harborside Healthcare of Sharon, the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript, and WKS-Residential Resources Inc.

Borders Books donated hundreds of children’s books to MDS last summer, and Children’s Services hosted a book sale to raise money, bringing in more than $800 to go toward gifts for families. As part of its Share-A-Tree Program, and in conjunction with the Monadnock United Way, Target celebrated the season of giving by donating a holiday tree with lights and decorations.

Wally Reney, along with Toys for Tots and Douglas Toys, donated dozens of stuffed animals and toys for children connected with MDS.   A group of thoughtful and generous men, the Retired Six-Pack, donated, delivered and stacked five cords of wood for several families. We also want to thank the Blais family, the Broad-Vigneault family, the Messier family, Norma Leach, MDS employees, and many other community members who gave gifts and donations to help make a better Christmas for families in need in our region.

These generous folks' kindness touch these families in many ways, especially during these difficult times. From one family: “Awesome!  Thank you so much.  We couldn't afford to buy anything for our son.  This means so much to us.”  A mother cried and said she was “thrilled and overwhelmed with all the gifts. Another wrote a note to us saying:  “Thank you so much, I can't even express how much we appreciate your help!”

On behalf of everyone at MDS and the individuals and families we work with, we thank all of you for your generosity and good will.
